Friday, April 2, 2010: Joshua Tree – Mojave National Preserve – Needles Mojave National Preserve: “real” desert with Joshua Trees (not found in Joshua Tree NP) and unpaved roads (Heide loves them!). Wanted to take a tour through Mitchell Caverns in Providence Mountains: tour was to start at 3:00 p.m.; when we arrived at 2:40, it was fully booked (“Next tour tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.”). Drove to Needles, checked mails and found message from Andrea and Kirk.

The desert is alive!

Wednesday, March 31, 2010: San Diego, San Ysidro Took bus and trolley to downtown San Diego, walked Gaslamp Quarter and Horton Plaza, and took the trolley to San Ysidro. Went over the bridge to Mexico, but didn’t leave the U.S. but returned to our campground. On the way back (walking) bought some stuff at Grocery Outlet and carried 7 plastic bags more than 3 miles back to the campground (very imprecise map showing store much closer than in reality!)

Got a 2009 model RV, self-served our convenience packs including extra dishes, plaids, and chemicals. Invaded WalMart, stowed all stuff, and headed south to Chula Vista. TomTom was quite helpful, but finally stopped us 1 mile away from KOA San Diego. Asking a guy on the street finally got us to … Read More
