Mile 0 of 8000 Miles (USA – Day 1)

posted in: USA 2016 3

It has been waaayy too long since our last camping trip – but now we ARE on the road again, finally!
We will be “on tour” for 3 ½ weeks total, going all across the continental USA and back. Why? Well, technically to pick up some antique furniture and fiddles from Kirk’s late Grandma Nettie (in Florida), but to make this even more worthwhile and memorable, we’re visiting as many folks along the way as possible – former Air Force colleagues, friends and family!

After Kirk finishes off his last assignment and class for his final semester at Las Positas College and I get off work, we head out to leave the Bay Area behind … as are many others on this eve of the long Memorial Day holiday weekend!

I-580 E is busy as usual, and I-5 S is in poor shape a usual, but we get to Bakersfield, CA without any issues. Hwy 58 E will take us on to the farthest point of today’s journey: Barstow, CA and it is past midnight by the time we’re parked and ready to sleep at our “campsite” in the Flying J Truck Rest Stop.
