Touring The City for a Cure

posted in: Avon Walk 0

As a personal TourGuide to friends and family, I’ve had the opportunity to show the sights of The City By The Bay more than once, but this time I’m hoping to have a much larger audience: all of you!

Therefore, I’ve committed to participating in the 2010 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in San Francisco.  It’s a big commitment, one that will require me to spend the remaining weeks until the July 10+11 weekend training and fundraising.

Without leaving your desk or sofa, you will have the opportunity to join me – through on-the-spot updates from along the route – via this website, where you will find photos, comments and other updates posted as I make my 39 mile way through the City. Be prepared for some major sights!

I can’t do it without your help.  Though I’m required to raise at least $1,800 in donation, I plan to raise much more! Playing with numbers, I came up with a goal of at least $2,400 = my age as a percentage added to the minimum!

Breast cancer is a big disease, one that still affects far too many people, and I’m determined to do everything I can to help put an end to it.  Bringing it back to a more personal level: One of my close friends was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. After early detection, surgery and radiation, Stephanie is now cancer free. Also, one of my colleagues from work had been diagnosed. Linda had a much harder time getting through, but is now a survivor. Both are joining us on the walk! And then our team captain, Alisa: she walked last year, just because. And got us all to join her team this year!

The money I raise will be managed and disbursed by the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade to help provide access to care for those that most need it, fund educational programs, and accelerate research into new treatments and potential cures.  I’ll be just one of thousands of people that will walk up to a marathon and a half over a weekend, raising awareness of the cause and educating even more people.

You can make a donation to my fundraising campaign right here on my website by clicking on the “Donate Now” button (coming very soon), which will link you to the official Avon Walk Donation page.  Thank you in advance.

Stay Tuned …  I plan to update my website frequently so that all my supporters can follow my progress, so please visit often.

I hope that I can count on your support.  Every Dollar counts. And every Euro counts even more: +33%!

Thank you & Vielen Dank!  Andrea (aka TourGuide Andi)
