Florida, Hot and Sticky (USA – Day 8)

posted in: USA 2016 0

Florida is a pretty big state, and although we won’t go all the way south, it’s still a full day’s trip to follow along I-10 East to I-75 South and onto the Florida Turnpike, past Orlando and to our Destination for the weekend: Stuart, FL. It is just before dark when we check in at the Port St. Lucie RV resort, site #1, and get set up for 2 nights. The campground is quiet. Clean and has everything we need. … Read More

Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida (USA – Day 7)

I’m still working today – last day before my vacation starts tomorrow, and while Kirk gets the truck & trailer ready for the next long part of our trip this morning, I work from the house. It’s pouring rain outside, so I’m not feeling too bad to be inside. In the early afternoon, it’s time to say goodbye to our friends, and we head back out onto the freeway. I-10 E will be our “home” for the next 960 … Read More

Drive-thru Daiquiri Shacks in Louisiana (USA – Day 6)

posted in: USA 2016 1

I’m working away from my makeshift office in Ricki & Kayla’s living room, while the others enjoy some quality time together. This evening, it’s time to head out to dinner – and we stroll through the Golden Nugget Casino afterwards. To finish off the day, it’s time to hit up the drive-thru Daiquiri place in town again … YAY! It’s our favorite sight … 😉

Texas is a Big Drive (USA – Day 5)

posted in: USA 2016 0

The sun isn’t even out yet as we get back on the road (yep, still I-10 E) and continue onward. It is hot, and muggy when we stop for lunch, and not much better as we cross through San Antonio and later through Houston, TX. But we are getting closer! Kirk does most of the driving today, as I am working from my “mobile office” – fully connected with our two Wi-Fi hotspots working overtime! And by 6:30pm, we finally … Read More

Caveman ♥ Cavewoman (USA – Day 4)

posted in: USA 2016 1

Happy Birthday, J.T.! It’s been exactly 4 years ago on Memorial Day morning that J.T. found us at Joshua Tree NP! We pack up from our campground and get started on our journey as we climb up the Sacramento Mountains east of Alamogordo, through the Lincoln National Forest. At a beautiful outlook point we stop and actually run into Steve Bell again, who is coming back from early morning Harley ride. Soon we are on the road again, to … Read More

Good Times With Old Friends (USA – Day 3)

posted in: USA 2016 4

After breakfast (again, thank you Michelle!) we give the tour of the trailer, and then it’s time to head out again. Today’s destination is in central New Mexico and we have 350 miles to go! Steve Bell and his family are waiting, with a cold beer ready for Kirk! (and we’ll have to break the news to his girls that we did not name J.T. “Princess” or “Precious” as they had suggested 4 years ago when they had first met … Read More

Truck & Trailer Falling to Pieces (USA – Day 2)

posted in: USA 2016 2

Ready, set, go! Pretty much – grabbing a breakfast snack, gas up and get going. Lots of miles to cover today! We start on I-40 E towards the California/Arizona border. After approx. 3 ½ hours we get to Lake Havasu City, were we stop for gas (so much cheaper in AZ than in CA!). And here is where we find the front grill cover of Kirk’s truck hanging on by the proverbial thread – one little latch is still … Read More

Mile 0 of 8000 Miles (USA – Day 1)

posted in: USA 2016 3

It has been waaayy too long since our last camping trip – but now we ARE on the road again, finally! We will be “on tour” for 3 ½ weeks total, going all across the continental USA and back. Why? Well, technically to pick up some antique furniture and fiddles from Kirk’s late Grandma Nettie (in Florida), but to make this even more worthwhile and memorable, we’re visiting as many folks along the way as possible – former Air … Read More

Our Journey Ends – Home at Last! [Day 20]

What a trip it has been! After a 12 hour flight, 2 hours through immigration and a 1-hour wait for the shuttle bus, we are on our way home (another 2 hours, now that it is rush hour traffic), pick up J.T. (250% excitement there!) and look forward to seeing Spot again who’s been waiting at the house. A huge thank you to Teri & her family for watching J.T., and to Darlene for house & Spot-sitting over the last … Read More

One More Surprise! [Day 19]

posted in: Europe 2015 0

While the day’s schedule is packed with post-wedding surprises (the wedding guests “decorate” the couple’s apartment according to the tradition), brunch and a family photographer session, we have yet another surprise planned! But not for the newlyweds – this one is for our parents. With their 45th (!) wedding anniversary fast approaching (Aug 7th), we’ve organized a cake with their wedding photo on it, and put together a brass frame (45th anniversary = brass). In the frame – 4 wedding … Read More
