Crikey!

We’ve been Down Under for 7 days now and there is still so much more to see! “Crikey!” is the word of the day as we are heading north from Brisbane (approx. 1 hr)  to the small town of Beerwah, where the Australia Zoo, home of the Crocodile Hunter, is located. After yesterday’s Koala & Roo excitements, it’s all about the crocodiles today! The late Steve Irwin, better known to TV viewers as The Crocodile Hunter, was not only “handling” … Read More

Today we made it to the Australia Zoo. It wasn’t the biggest zoo, but is was a nice size. They didn’t have the most animals, but they had plenty. But I have to say that this was the nicest zoo I’ve ever seen. It was clean and the animals were treated extremely well. If you are ever planning on traveling to Australia, this is a MUST see. Enjoy the photos.

It is Day 6 of our trip and as we are leaving Surfers Paradise, heading towards Brisbane, we know one thing for sure: we will see Koalas today! After all, we are spending the day at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary today. Located just outside downtown, in one of the Brisbane River bends, this small park is a must see for animal lovers! But with ever-changing scenery: hills, mountains, plains, hills, mountains, … and cows, sheep, horses, cows, sheep … you get the picture! (Actually really beautiful, you’ve seen the Photo Gallery!) And not to forget the “highlight” of the day: exploring our Celtic roots (just kidding) in Glen Innes’s Standing Stones of Australia. I must say, Woodhenge in England was just … Read More

Read Kirk’s post for the english version of Day 4 … here’s an update in German for my folks! Read More

Kangaroo, Wallaby, and Wombat Roadkill

Yesterday, day 4, started with a hike to Wall Cave which is still up in the Blue Mountains area.  It was an hour hike roundtrip.  Lots of steps again.  Andrea counted 602 each way.  It was quite pretty and the light rain added a mystical element to the hike.  The closer we got to the bottom, the narrower the path got.  We were having to push our way through the wet green brush.  Just before we reached the caves, there … Read More
